Authorities stated they were notified by a resident who discovered a car in Hanau covered with reddish fluid

Roughly fifty cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a statement.

Police state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.

The fluid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Police then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Police say initial examinations indicate the fluid was most likely blood from a person.

"There is still no lead as to where it came from; authorities are presently not aware of any injuries in association with the event," they added.

Local authorities said they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for information.

An important official said the incident left him stunned and had to be addressed rapidly.

"This act hits the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the death of nine victims by a assailant targeting residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
